We are extremely happy and proud of the award received on Saturday, December 3, on the International Day of People with Disabilities, "Award of the Year for the Support of People with Disabilities" in the "Courage" nomination, in the "collective performance" category. The award for new initiatives or creative actions representing people with disabilities, their rights and interests was presented by Mrs. Andra Levite, President of the State.
The competition "Award of the year for the support of people with disabilities" has been organized for the eighth year by the association Apeirons together with the Office of the Ombudsman and the National Library of Latvia. The purpose of the competition is to evaluate and support those people, organizations and companies that have actively represented the interests of people with disabilities. This year, the jury consisted of seven representatives of various industries and well-known personalities - Mrs. President of the State Andra Levite, ombudsman Juris Jansons, Ivars Balodis, chairman of the board of the Association of Invalids and their Friends "Apeirons", head of LNB General Reading Room Zane Zvaigzne, journalist and radio personality Aidis Tomsons, Latvian Municipality union adviser on health and social issues Ilze Rudzīte, as well as public activist Patricija Anna Vavilova.
At the solemn competition ceremony this year, awards were presented in 8 nominations: Accessible Environmental Initiatives, Educator, Inspirer of Children and Youth, Voice of Social Networks, Herald of Culture, Helper of the Year, Promoter of Employment and Daring. Nominees were considered in two categories - "Individual performance" and "Collective performance" - in a total of eight nominations.
